Self-contained AG nodes (may be signed out to professors or students for up to 5 hours?). The current plan is to have at least 3 of these made from our current machines, with another added to the library.

[edit] Equipment

[edit] Audio

Currently, Chat 50 or Duet that is sitting on top of the cart. Future: we should look into the ClearOne RAV 600. Runs about $1800-2000, has echo cancelling, and comes with speakers and 2 accumic-esque 3-mic pods, but unfortunately isn't expandable at all. Also, if we're using them with the Suns, we might need external audio interfaces (look into USB ones) if RAT doesn't work with the integrated sound they already have.

[edit] Video

Can use Sony or Canon DV Cameras, probably at least 1 or 2 apiece. Future: HD?

[edit] Displays

So far, just regular monitors - for future, most likely 1 or 2 large (40"+? depends on cart) 1080p LCDs. Also - look into touchscreens, for potential control of full-screen HD videos (with custom software, done by Chris?). Some decent ones on newegg: [1] ELO seems to have an X input driver for Linux.

[edit] Computers

Kestrel (on a cart now), Eagle (not currently on a cart) and Falcon (currently in CASCI), probably running Ubuntu.

[edit] Carts

This is probably the most pressing problem - we need to find a good cart that can fit our large, heavy Suns and can securely mount a large LCD as well. This site: [2] has decent computer carts and TV stands, but not something that does both. Both ClearOne and Polycom have media carts, but I'm not sure they could fit a computer inside them (and some of them don't support as large of an LCD as we want).

[edit] Plans

[edit] Issues

  • Lighting stinks.

[edit] Upgrades

  • Need to get two 48" displays
  • Get a projector?
  • Upgrade to 3CCD Panasonic or HD Cam

[edit] Preliminary Budget

Sun: $4500
Cart: $500 maybe
Audio: $~2000, if RAV
Video: $1000 for DV, $4000 or so (probably more) for HD
Display: 2x LCD at $2000 apiece = $4000 + touchscreen ($500) = $4500
total: $15500 max</code>
