[edit] Microphones

[edit] KEM970

Tom mentioned the Gefell KEM970 Planar Microphone -- which runs for $12K. He said they tested it a couple yesrs ago, and it worked fairly well inside a large room -- running at $12K, its total cost of ownership MIGHT be about the same as a Polycom and a large number of microphones. maybe.

Just as a side note, it's basically impossible to mic anything from far away and not have it sound distant. This might not be worth it just because of that. --AndrewFord 16:45, 10 May 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Phoenix Duet Executive

These things work fairly well, given suitable speaker placement and the special volume adjustment app from Phoenix. Sounds "distant" (room reverberation, etc) if you're farther than a few feet away.

[edit] ClearOne Accumic

Too quiet at a distance of 6 feet -- at least in CASCI. I'll try again in the conference room to see how it performs there.

[edit] Throw-around mic

Once we get our Shure wireless microphones, we're going to embed one in something throwable -- MIT did this with a ball once[1][2][3], though Ed likes the idea of a stuffed animal -- a face on the microphone could subtly remind speakers to point it in the right direction.

[edit] Shure Wireless mics

We've ordered a Dual-receiver and matching lavalir microphones.

[edit] Standalone Echo Cancellers

[edit] Phoenix Soho Conference Card

(Note to self: document our impressions here.)

[edit] ClearOne XAP400

We have one of these now. To properly test it, we need some real microphones (we should look at ceiling mics) and some more cables (XLR + one of these: [4] )

[edit] Polycom

We might try one of these.

[edit] Other

Tom Uram mentioned Biamp as another possibility...

we use a clearone accumic PC - got it from avsuperstore.com for $547 - nicely integrates with our pc - very effective.

for dvts we have been using skype for audio - nice echo cancellation - good lipsync - skype does not lip-sync with mpeg-2 streams because of the latency.

we use the dell installed firewire cards - nothing special

i have a h.323 videoconference today from 2-5p m so am not available to dvts in to your kodak conference - maybe next time - good luck - gates
