This room is a large conference/workspace in the new IT Collaboratory, which is an addition to the MicroE building. Gurcharan's office is sorta attached to this room.

[edit] Audio

This is going to be somewhat tough considering it's a large room like the lab. Ceiling mics are basically out of the question since the ceiling's pretty high up (12, 13+ feet) and there's a big HVAC duct up there. Since the furniture is a bit more stable in there than in the lab, tabletops might be an option.

[edit] Video

At least 2 cameras, more if this space needs to accomodate local presentations.

[edit] Displays

The maximum space we have for a screen is about 20x11, which is roughly a 16x9 aspect ratio. The problem with trying to use 1 HD projector is that we'd need a really expensive high-lumen one to get decent brightness at that size. We do have better control over the lighting in that room as compared to the lab, but we don't want to require complete darkness to use the projector, especially for n-way conferences/collaborations.

Another option is to use a number of (possibly 6) cheaper projectors in a video-wall-like display. Mounting them and lining them up would be a pain, but we would get greater pixel density and higher brightness for a potentially lower price depending on what resolution we want.

For this approach, we can use a Matrox TripleHead2Go (review: [1]) which supports up to 3x1280x1024 (we'd probably use 3x1024x768 though)

[edit] Computers

1 Sun Ultra 40M2 or equivalent might be enough, but if we need to support a presentation (ie, more cameras) we might need another machine.

[edit] Other

The lights need to be moved up to prevent blocking the potential screen, and there's a big HVAC duct near the ceiling but it doesn't block too much. Not sure how much noise it makes when heat/AC are on. Also - security for whatever machine(s) we put in there? The room is less public than 2270 but I think a number of people have access to it.
